One of our latest tank manufacturing projects was designing and manufacturing a reactor mixing vessel for the purpose of bauxite processing.

Let’s talk a little bit about what bauxite processing is so you can understand why the level of detail in the manufacturing side needs to be so precise.

What is bauxite and bauxite processing?

Bauxite is a mineral used for the production of aluminium and is typically extracted through open cast mining. It is commonly found near the surface, and the specific methods used may vary depending on the location.

Bauxite is a type of ore that undergoes a process called dissolution in sodium hydroxide, or lye, at high temperatures and pressures. This process allows for the separation of alumina and bauxite ores by washing out the waste materials, such as red mud or sands. The final step involves the crystallisation and drying of hydrated alumina in a furnace, resulting in the production of solid alumina.

As you can clearly see you have to design and manufacture a highly technical vessel for this process to take place not only efficiently but safely too.
